Einride acquires Flipturn for $38M to bolster electric trucking

Flipturn, a 17-person startup founded in 2022, brings a platform capable of communicating with any charger via the Open Charge Point Protocol. By integrating Flipturn’s software, Einride intends to provide clients with a centralized system that monitors infrastructure health, vehicle battery levels, and route-specific energy needs. The startup will retain its existing team and operations following the deal’s expected closure this month.

CEO Roozbeh Charli described the purchase as a cornerstone of the company’s U.S. scaling strategy. Beyond its signature cabless autonomous pods, Einride manages a fleet of 200 heavy-duty trucks for major global clients including Heineken, PepsiCo, and Carlsberg Sweden. The firm also recently secured a partnership with Amazon, providing trucking services through the retail giant’s Relay freight network using its proprietary Saga AI software. By controlling both the transport hardware and the charging management layer, Einride aims to lower the barrier for logistics companies hesitant to transition from diesel to electric freight.
