Anthropic expands Claude voice capabilities with model integration

The update enables Claude to pull from the specific model a user last engaged with in text chats, defaulting to the fastest version available. Beyond mere conversation, the voice mode now integrates with third-party productivity tools including Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion. This allows users to dictate commands to update schedules, draft emails, or generate documents across their digital workspace—a functional edge over OpenAI’s current voice offering, which lacks comparable tool-use capabilities.

Anthropic also confirmed that multilingual support, previously in beta, now covers ten languages including Japanese, German, and Brazilian Portuguese, though users must manually select their preferred language. While the update is rolling out to all users in beta, restrictions remain for those on free plans, who are limited to the Haiku model and a single connected application. The company has not updated the underlying voice stack itself, meaning users should not expect improvements in conversational fluidity or interruption handling at this stage.
