Sephora Expands Sensory-Friendly Shopping Hours Globally

The beauty retailer confirmed the global rollout following a successful pilot program across 32 locations in eight markets. During these designated periods, stores will dim digital displays, lower background music, and eliminate unnecessary sensory distractions. The initiative was developed alongside neurodiversity advocacy groups Open Inclusion and Purposeful Futures, reflecting a shift toward inclusive store design.

Sephora is not alone in this transition. Retailers are increasingly viewing accessibility as a strategic point of differentiation rather than a mere goodwill gesture. Walmart established permanent sensory-friendly hours across its U.S. and Puerto Rico locations in 2023, while companies like Target, Chuck E. Cheese, and AMC Theatres have adopted similar protocols to accommodate customers who find standard retail environments overwhelming.
