Entrepreneurs are pouring capital into the infrastructure required to scale the game. David Gutstadt, a former Equinox executive, has launched Ballers with locations in Philadelphia and Boston, while Kith founder Ronnie Fieg has integrated courts into an exclusive Manhattan club where memberships reach $45,000 upfront. These figures reflect the high barrier to entry, as a single court costs roughly $50,000 to construct.
Despite the significant overhead, investors are chasing the trajectory of pickleball, which scaled from 4 million to 24 million domestic players since 2020. The Pro Padel League recently secured $15 million in funding and established a broadcast presence on CNBC, signaling that the sport is moving from a boutique hobby toward a mainstream commercial enterprise.
