Forrest Galante and the Business of Wildlife Adventure

Galante’s career trajectory shifted when he recognized that his influence remained limited within standard biological frameworks. Rather than abandoning his conservation mission, he adopted a new medium, using television to connect millions with wildlife. When established producers rejected his ambitious pitches, he founded Phantasticus Pictures. This venture allowed him to bypass industry gatekeepers and establish what he describes as the largest independent wildlife media production company outside the BBC.

The reality of Galante's success involves significant physical hardship, from enduring 12-hour dive days to navigating the logistical nightmares of remote expeditions. He attributes his ability to produce high-stakes content for projects like Discovery’s Shark Week to a team-first approach, prioritizing a shared passion for exploration over traditional corporate structure. His upcoming special, Alien Sharks: Untamed America, highlights this commitment, featuring regional species ranging from Plymouth Rock basking sharks to glow-in-the-dark swell sharks.
