The integration follows a pivotal ruling by U.S. District Judge James Donato in the Epic Games lawsuit, which dismantled the barriers that previously forced alternative stores to rely exclusively on sideloading. Since June 22, 2026, Google has been compelled to open its infrastructure through the Play Catalog Access Program. This framework allows third-party marketplaces to tap into the existing app ecosystem while maintaining their own independent storefronts.

For Aptoide, which serves roughly 25 million monthly active users and hosts over 40,000 applications, the U.S. remains its largest market. By securing a presence on Google Play, the company sheds the friction of manual installation that historically throttled its growth. The transition stems from a 2020 legal battle initiated by Epic Games, which successfully argued that the Android ecosystem operated under anticompetitive constraints. Following a 2023 jury verdict and a failed appeal, Google committed to dropping its traditional Play Store commissions and simplifying the installation process for rival platforms.
