YouTube Doubles Monetization Thresholds for New Creators

Existing members of the YouTube Partner Program remain unaffected by these updates, which the Google-owned platform justifies as a necessary adjustment to its massive scale. Daily traffic now exceeds 200 billion Shorts views and one billion hours of watch time on television screens alone. For those currently inside the ecosystem, however, maintaining eligibility for the Shorts Creators Pool now requires a consistent 10 million views every three months. Channels failing to meet this rolling target will see their Shorts revenue suspended until they recover their audience reach, though long-form video earnings remain active.

Simultaneously, YouTube is expanding its affordable Premium Lite subscription globally. This move aims to bolster creator payouts, as the company claims partners typically earn more from premium subscribers than from traditional ad-supported views. Revenue from these subscriptions is split between creators based on engagement, with long-form video makers receiving 55% and Shorts creators taking 45%. This tightening of entry requirements arrives amid a broader industry shift, as competitors like X and Facebook aggressively adjust their own creator incentive structures to control talent retention.
