The partnership grants MediaTek access to Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion ecosystem, enabling diverse chips to communicate at high speeds within data centers. This move serves as a tactical pivot for Nvidia; rather than resisting the industry trend of companies designing their own application-specific integrated circuits, the chip giant is positioning itself as the essential infrastructure layer for these custom designs. Dion Harris, Nvidia’s senior director for hyperscaler infrastructure, noted that the collaboration allows MediaTek to standardize its offerings on Nvidia’s rack-scale architecture.
MediaTek has been steadily scaling its custom ASIC operations, projecting $2 billion in revenue from the segment by 2026. Beyond data centers, the two firms are deepening ties in consumer AI PCs and software-defined vehicles, utilizing Nvidia’s RTX graphics and Drive AGX platforms to power automotive cockpits. This investment follows a similar integration deal with Amazon Web Services, reinforcing Nvidia’s goal of ensuring that regardless of who manufactures the processor, the underlying infrastructure remains tethered to its proprietary stack.
