Job Interviews Get Weird as Companies Hunt for AI Impostors

A recent Checkr survey of 3,000 managers reveals the scale of the problem: 59% of respondents suspect applicants are using artificial intelligence to misrepresent themselves during the hiring process. Candidates are increasingly employing hidden screens or AI-driven feeds to deliver rehearsed answers in real time, forcing companies to adopt aggressive counter-measures.

Quality engineer Heather Wilcox reports facing interview software designed to track eye movements, specifically searching for signs that she is reading from a hidden script. Others, like the company Somos, require candidates to wave their hands in front of their faces, as current technology still struggles to render such motion convincingly over a synthetic persona. For some firms, the solution is a return to traditional methods. Nominal co-founder Bryce Strauss insists on in-person meetings, arguing that the only reliable way to distinguish a candidate today is to verify their presence in the physical world.
