Google updates Android with motion sickness tools and Gemini integration

The standout addition, Motion Assist, addresses the sensory disconnect that triggers motion sickness. By displaying a dynamic bubble overlay that mimics vehicle movement, the tool aligns visual input with physical sensation. While Apple debuted a similar concept with Vehicle Motion Cues last year, Google’s version offers extensive customization for shape, color, and transparency, and is currently rolling out to Android 17 users.

Accessibility remains a core focus with Guided Vision. This feature leverages Gemini and the device camera to assist blind or low-vision users in interpreting their environment, from reading food labels to identifying household objects. It includes real-time voice guidance to help users frame shots correctly. The tool is compatible with devices running Android 9 or newer in regions where Gemini is supported.

Beyond accessibility, the update expands Gemini’s role as a personal assistant through a new Find Hub section. Users can now dictate the location of specific items, such as passports or keys, which the AI stores alongside optional reference photos. Furthermore, Google is tightening the integration between Keep and Messages, allowing users to collaborate on lists directly within chat threads. The update also introduces cosmetic personalization for Google Messages, enabling custom backgrounds and color schemes for individual conversations.
