TikTok to Pay Alabama $100 Million to Settle Safety Claims

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall confirmed the agreement, noting that the total payout could climb to $300 million if specific, undisclosed conditions are met. Beyond the financial penalty, the company committed to implementing a two-hour daily time limit for underage users, alongside new restrictions on overnight usage and the application of cosmetic filters.

Marshall framed the settlement as a victory for families, stating that parents can now rely on tangible protections against the risks of social media dependency. For its part, TikTok described the move as an extension of its existing efforts to refine safety tools for teenage demographics. This settlement follows a broader $400 million agreement reached in August with the Department of Justice over separate allegations involving child privacy violations.
