Modulate Secures $25M to Refine Voice Intelligence and Intent Analysis

Founded in 2017 by MIT physics alumni Mike Pappas and Carter Huffman, Modulate has pivoted from its early focus on gaming voice modulation toward enterprise-grade moderation and security. The company currently deploys a network of over 100 small-scale models. This architecture allows the platform to operate without the massive compute requirements typically associated with large language models, offering a more efficient way to extract emotional tone and identify synthetic audio.

By sitting alongside existing voice stacks, Modulate provides granular data on why customer service interactions succeed or fail. Huffman argues that traditional sentiment analysis often misses the mark, as customers may remain polite while harboring deep dissatisfaction. Beyond quality assurance, the startup has positioned itself as a defensive layer against voice-based cyberattacks. With this fresh capital—led by Future Ventures with support from Hyperplane and Lakestar—the team plans to grow its 45-person workforce and enhance its on-device deployment capabilities to address rising privacy concerns.
