Efferon Targets Pediatric Sepsis with Novel Purification Device

When standard antibiotics fail to halt an immune system’s overreaction, the body essentially consumes itself. Dima Romashin, co-founder and CEO, likens the process to a fire where endotoxins represent the flames and cytokines the suffocating smoke. While existing devices often struggle to manage this complex chemical environment, Efferon’s technology removes both simultaneously. The company’s pediatric iteration, Efferon NEO, accounts for the lower circulating blood volume in children, a distinction that makes it safer and more effective than adult-sized alternatives.

In April, the device secured a CE mark, authorizing its use across Europe as the first multimodal blood purification tool engineered specifically for pediatric care. Currently, the technology is utilized in intensive care units across 30 countries, ranging from European hospitals to clinics in Saudi Arabia and Thailand. Originally birthed by scientists at Moscow State University, the startup is now preparing to seek FDA approval. With an eye toward reaching $2 million in annualized revenue by the end of 2026, the company prioritizes clinical outcomes over the hyper-growth metrics common in the tech sector.
