Uber deploys ChatGPT Work to entire 30,000-person global staff

The expansion follows a successful trial period where non-engineers comprised 80% of early adopters. According to Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s VP of engineering, staff utilized the tools to parse complex operational data, localize training materials across international markets, and construct custom dashboards for task management. Rather than enforcing rigid use cases, the company is encouraging internal experimentation. Earlier this year, Uber embedded 30 AI engineers into various departments for two-week sprints, creating 'AI pods' designed to identify and automate repetitive job functions.

While Uber declined to comment on the financial terms of the OpenAI deal, the company plans to monitor usage patterns to determine long-term ROI. By observing how employees integrate the chatbot into existing workflows, leadership hopes to refine its broader strategy for AI adoption. This move marks a significant victory for OpenAI as it aggressively scales its enterprise business to maintain a lead over competitors like Anthropic.
