Trump Administration Partially Reverses Anthropic Cybersecurity Ban

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed the decision in a Friday missive to Anthropic’s chief compute officer, Tom Brown, citing the implementation of new safeguards as the primary driver for the pivot. The policy shift allows these organizations—many of which manage critical infrastructure—to resume utilizing the model despite initial concerns that its safety guardrails were easily compromised by researchers.

While the administration cleared Mythos 5 for this select group, the directive remains silent on the status of Fable 5, a variant previously pulled from the market alongside its more powerful counterpart. Anthropic stated on X that it is actively collaborating with federal officials to restore general access to both models, though the company did not provide a specific timeline for when broader availability might return.
