David Dimbleby

David Dimblebyis one of Britain’s most distinguished broadcasters, with a career spanning more than five decades in journalism and current affairs television. Best known as the long-serving host of the BBC’s flagship political debate programme Question Time, Dimbleby became a defining face of British political broadcasting through his measured interviewing style and authoritative presence.

Born into the prominent Dimbleby broadcasting family, he is the son of celebrated war correspondent Richard Dimbleby and the elder brother of fellow broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby. He began his career in journalism before joining the BBC, where he steadily built a reputation for incisive political coverage.

Dimbleby anchored the BBC’s Election Night coverage from 1979 until 2017, guiding viewers through some of the most consequential general elections in modern British history. He also led the corporation’s coverage of United States presidential elections until 2016, reinforcing his standing as a trusted interpreter of transatlantic politics.

Beyond live political programming, Dimbleby has written and presented acclaimed documentary series exploring British history, architecture and national identity. His work has frequently combined rigorous research with accessible storytelling, broadening his appeal beyond Westminster-focused audiences.
