The abuse began in 2019 after the couple reported on legal disputes between eBay and Amazon. Displeased with the coverage, then-CEO Devin Wenig allegedly messaged a subordinate with the directive to take Ina Steiner down. What followed was a coordinated harassment scheme that escalated from anonymous, disturbing deliveries to plans for installing GPS trackers on the couple’s vehicle.
Under the terms of the settlement, eBay will pay $46.15 million, while three former executives are responsible for additional personal payments. Notably, the agreement contains no confidentiality clause, allowing the Steiners to speak openly about the ordeal. Seven million dollars of the total sum is earmarked for charity. While eBay acknowledged the conduct was reprehensible, the settlement marks the close of a dark chapter for the company’s leadership and corporate culture.
