Outernet turns social media bookmarks into real-world plans

The app functions as a centralized repository for the events, restaurants, and landmarks users typically bookmark and promptly forget. By sharing links or photos of flyers directly into the interface, users trigger an AI-driven system that extracts key details like dates, times, and locations. This data is then sorted into a chronological feed or mapped, with the app sending proactive nudges to move users from their screens to the sidewalk.

Egan and Leong, who previously pivoted from corporate roles to adventure design, view their platform as a "motivation engine for IRL." They are currently experimenting with gamification features, including a digital passport system that allows users to "stamp" completed outings, fostering a sense of accomplishment. The founders emphasize that their goal is to support community organizers who lack the marketing bandwidth to reach wider audiences, effectively acting as a conduit for local engagement.

Launched two months ago, the iOS app has already secured 18,000 users and achieved profitability through a premium subscription model priced at $6.99 per month. While they navigate early-stage growth and potential venture backing, the founders remain focused on maintaining a whimsical brand identity. For now, the platform remains invite-only, though the team is maintaining an Android waitlist for future expansion.
