Wispr Secures $280 Million to Expand Beyond Dictation

The capital arrives as competition intensifies, with rivals like Willow, Monologue, and Superwhisper pressuring the dictation space. Wispr is responding by diversifying its product suite, most notably with a new note-taker tool designed to challenge incumbents like Fireflies and Read AI. This expansion is paired with the launch of Canto, a speech-recognition model intended to address recent user criticism regarding a dip in output quality, with the company promising to slash error rates from 30% to under 10%.

Beyond software, the company is scaling its global presence in India and the U.K. while integrating its technology into wearable hardware, such as the Oasis ring. Under the guidance of Ariya Rastrow, a veteran of Amazon’s early Alexa development, the newly formed Wispr Interface Labs is now tasked with researching next-generation human-computer interaction. By moving into document drafting and email integration, Wispr aims to transform from a simple transcription utility into a comprehensive productivity ecosystem.
