Relay founder Jacob Bank joins Google Chrome team following startup closure

Relay, established in 2021 to challenge established automation tools like Zapier, ceased operations after failing to gain sufficient market traction. Paying customers retain access until September 14, following the termination of free services on August 15. Bank, now serving as VP of Product for Chrome, intends to leverage his background in AI-driven productivity to evolve the browser into a hub for collaborative agents.

Bank’s history with Google spans several key roles, including product lead for Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Chat. His move aligns with Google’s broader strategy to weave Gemini’s capabilities into its entire software ecosystem. While specific features remain under wraps, the company is betting that integrating AI directly into the browser interface will drive deeper user engagement, building on the momentum of Gemini’s recent milestone of 1 billion users.
