College tuition payments now available via Venmo

PayPal announced this Wednesday that it is linking its services with Illumia, Nelnet Campus Commerce, and TouchNet. These platforms manage payment infrastructure for thousands of universities across the country. By embedding these payment gateways, the company aims to offer students and families additional flexibility when navigating high-cost educational expenses.

Nelnet Campus Commerce president Jackie Strohbehn framed the integration as a way to reduce friction, suggesting that expanded payment options help ensure affordability does not become a barrier to enrollment. While the industry emphasizes a seamless experience for tuition payers, the shift marks a significant change in how students interact with their university's financial portals, moving the process from dedicated bank interfaces directly into a consumer-focused social payment app.
