Spotify adds toggle to filter children’s music from recommendations

The streaming giant’s update arrives as a direct response to years of user feedback regarding shared household accounts. Families frequently link living room TVs and smart speakers to a primary parent account, creating a cluttered data profile that confuses Spotify’s suggestion engine. When the feature is enabled, the platform filters out music specifically categorized for children, including animated movie scores and nursery rhymes.

Crucially, the change applies retroactively to a user’s history, scrubbing past streams from current taste profiles. Previously, users were forced to manually exclude individual tracks or playlists—a cumbersome process that rarely kept pace with a child’s shifting musical interests. The new toggle is now available on mobile devices for both Free and Premium subscribers, effectively separating a parent’s genuine listening habits from the repetitive tracks played under duress in cars and common areas.
