Amazon plans to pour approximately $220 billion into capital expenditures by 2026, with the majority of those funds earmarked for expanding AWS infrastructure. Jassy signaled that spending will increase further in 2027 to capture what he describes as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in global AI demand. While Wall Street analysts pressed for clarity on profit margins and the necessity of such aggressive outlays, Jassy insisted the strategy is already yielding results. AWS revenue climbed 39 percent compared to the same period last year, marking six consecutive quarters of growth.
Despite the CEO’s optimism, the market response was skeptical. Shares dipped roughly 6 percent in after-market trading as investors weighed the long-term potential of AI against the immediate costs of building out the necessary capacity. Jassy maintains that the company is in the early stages of enterprise AI adoption and that these investments are essential to maintain market leadership. He projects AWS will sustain growth rates north of 40 percent through 2028, fundamentally altering the scale and revenue trajectory of the entire Amazon enterprise.
