Superpose functions as a digital director for amateur subjects. By analyzing the camera’s viewfinder, the app generates four distinct posing suggestions to help users frame their shots. While some outputs lean toward the uncanny, the startup is prioritizing authentic memory capture over the fantastical, AI-generated backgrounds common in competing apps. Since its July debut, the tool has seen over 22,000 downloads and 190,000 generated poses.

The business model relies on a freemium structure, offering five daily AI generations at no cost, with additional packs available for $2.99 or $9.99. To support development, the founders secured $2.2 million in funding from backers including Khosla Ventures and Meitu. Chu and Liu are currently refining the app’s personalization features and coaching logic to ensure the AI suggestions feel more natural for everyday photography.
