This potential expansion follows SK Hynix’s ongoing $3.8 billion investment in an advanced packaging and research facility in West Lafayette, Indiana, scheduled for production in 2029. Any agreement involving the transfer of sensitive semiconductor technology may face regulatory scrutiny in South Korea, where laws exist to prevent the overseas migration of critical industrial assets. Intel, which previously sold its NAND flash-memory business to SK Hynix for $9 billion in 2020, has yet to issue a formal response regarding the current negotiations.
