Morphotonics Secures €40M to Scale Nanoimprint Tech

The company, which spent over a decade refining its process of using stamps to create intricate optical patterns, currently powers waveguide technology for headsets like Magic Leap and the Meta Ray-Ban glasses. As shipments for smart glasses are projected to reach 12.2 million units by 2030, the firm is scaling its operations to meet industrial demand. Under CEO Hugo Da Silva, who joined last September, the startup has doubled its workforce to 60 employees and is preparing to deploy a new machine capable of producing 6 million waveguides annually.

While hardware sales currently account for 90% of revenue with 15 systems deployed globally, Morphotonics is diversifying its business model. The company aims to reach 50 deployments within three years by integrating its process into the manufacturing lines of display makers in Asia and the U.S. Beyond consumer electronics, the firm is targeting co-packaged optics, utilizing Photonic Integrated Circuits that replace electricity with light to accelerate data flow within server clusters. Though this segment remains in the pre-shipment phase, the startup reports that customers have already validated the technology.
