Benchmark Backs Furientis in $25M Push for Mass-Produced Missiles

The capital injection values the Los Angeles-based startup at $125 million. Founded by aerospace veterans Brody Franzen and Aris Simsarian, Furientis emerged from a $5 million pre-seed round that allowed the team to move from design to successful prototype launches in under twelve months. This operational speed contrasts sharply with the multi-year development cycles typical of established defense primes like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.

Franzen, who previously worked at Virgin Galactic and the hypersonic startup Castelion, identified a dangerous asymmetry in current defense capabilities. While the U.S. Navy procures fewer than 500 interceptors annually, competitors like China are estimated to produce thousands of anti-ship missiles each month. To bridge this gap, Furientis utilizes readily available components to build mid-range interceptors at a fraction of the $3 million cost associated with traditional systems. The company currently conducts bi-weekly flight tests at White Sands, New Mexico, with a long-term manufacturing goal of 1,000 units per facility annually. Benchmark partner Chetan Puttagunta cited the startup's proven ability to manufacture and test hardware on a lean budget as the primary driver behind the investment.
