Hark Launches AI Assistant Built for Computer Automation

Hark Pro functions as a full-screen operating system layer rather than a simple app. Users grant the software access to their digital lives—including email, calendars, and financial tools—allowing the agent to proactively manage expenses, schedule meetings, and navigate complex government websites like the California DMV. Unlike competitors that operate in the background, Hark visualizes the agent's web navigation in a small window, a design choice intended to foster transparency and user trust.

Design lead Abidur Chowdhury, formerly of Apple, emphasizes that the platform is built specifically for computer interaction. This specialization allows it to execute end-to-end tasks that often stall in other AI assistants. While the company claims it does not harvest user data for advertising, the platform requires deep integration into a user’s personal data to function effectively, presenting a significant hurdle for privacy-conscious consumers.

The startup’s long-term roadmap extends beyond software. Hark plans to unveil an AI-native hardware device in 2027, though leadership remains tight-lipped about the form factor. Chowdhury characterizes the current reliance on keyboards and terminals as a failure of imagination, suggesting the company intends to move away from traditional computing paradigms entirely.
