Under the terms of the agreement, Constellation will invest over $4.3 billion to upgrade its nuclear fleet across Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Google has locked in 890 megawatts for a 20-year term, with the first delivery scheduled for 2028. An additional 2,700 megawatts will be supplied over a 15-year period to meet the escalating demands of artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure.
Energy prices on the PJM Interconnection grid have spiked more than elevenfold since 2024, prompting grid operators to warn that data centers may face disconnection during peak demand if they cannot provide their own power sources. Constellation CEO Joe Dominguez characterized the partnership as a template for future collaboration between technology firms and utility providers. Following the announcement, Constellation shares rose by more than 13%.
