France’s National Cybersecurity Agency confirmed the intrusion targeted external providers responsible for managing temperature controls in thousands of retail locations. While the exact scope of the spoilage is still being assessed, the impact hit 300 Intermarché and Netto stores, 80 Coopérative U branches, and 30 Monoprix sites. Paris prosecutors have launched an investigation into the incident, though no group has claimed responsibility for the disruption.
Dominique Schelcher, head of Coopérative U, described the breach as an unprecedented assault on public infrastructure. He noted that a single store failure can result in losses totaling tens of thousands of dollars, though the cumulative financial damage across all affected chains remains uncalculated. For now, grocers are working to restore systems while authorities attempt to trace the origin of the remote access exploit.
