The legal complaint alleges that the company maintained extensive corporate knowledge of these discrepancies but failed to implement effective fixes. Between January 2023 and March 2026, customers logged over 29,000 complaints regarding pricing errors. Christopher Mufarrige, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, stated that the retailer betrayed the trust of millions of American consumers.
The coalition of states pursuing the litigation includes California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee, the latter serving as the company’s headquarters. While the suit seeks restitution for those affected by the overcharges, Dollar General has not yet issued a response to the allegations.
