Ukrainian startup turns Russian drone feeds into tactical intelligence

The device, known as the D·Vision SDR, weighs just 10 ounces, offering a significantly more portable solution than existing Ukrainian alternatives that can weigh upwards of two pounds. This mobility is essential for frontline teams who must remain agile while monitoring the skies for incoming threats. The receiver is specifically tuned to capture the radio channels used by Russia’s newer Molniya drones, which have been active since June.

Despite the tactical advantage, experts urge caution regarding the long-term reliability of such equipment. Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov, a radio warfare advisor to the Ukrainian presidency, noted that many existing detectors struggle to monitor these specific frequencies effectively. He warned that over-reliance on the device could be dangerous, particularly as Russian forces shift toward digital video transmission, which would render current analog-focused receivers obsolete. Furthermore, intelligence reports indicate that some Molniya drones are now utilizing AI-guided systems powered by Nvidia chips, which emit no signals for these receivers to track.
