Apple Intelligence transforms Shortcuts into natural language tool

Cecilia Dantas, senior manager of Home Software Product Marketing, acknowledged the complexity of the existing system, noting that while powerful, the manual creation of shortcuts often proves daunting for average users. By integrating Apple Intelligence, the application now interprets natural language requests to identify necessary system and app actions, automatically stitching them together into functional sequences.

For example, a user might prompt the system to notify a partner upon leaving the office. The AI handles the heavy lifting by pulling location data, calculating an estimated arrival time through Apple Maps, and dispatching the message via the platform’s messaging service. Once a workflow is established, users retain the ability to refine or expand the automation through further text commands—such as adding a trigger to start a podcast upon departure. The update arrives this fall alongside the wider iOS 27 release.
