Uber Targets Global Dominance with $14.8 Billion Delivery Hero Buyout

The deal hinges on a minimum acceptance threshold of 50% plus one share of Delivery Hero’s outstanding capital. Major shareholder Prosus has already signaled its support by committing to sell its 17% stake. To clear the path for regulatory approval, Delivery Hero simultaneously entered a separate $1.6 billion agreement to divest its assets in 14 markets where Uber Eats currently operates to the New York investment firm SSW Partners.

Should the acquisition close, Uber will solidify its position as the largest delivery platform outside of China, directly challenging competitors like DoorDash and Just Eat. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that the expansion aims to scale a proven platform across both mobility and delivery segments, creating deeper value for shareholders. Despite the ambition, the scale of the transaction invites inevitable antitrust scrutiny across the affected regions.
