Napoli, who took the helm with a mandate to stabilize the struggling EV maker, admitted the company has failed to execute consistently, citing premature product launches and neglected service infrastructure. To reach the targeted $1.4 billion in savings, the firm is slashing capital expenditures by $500 million and trimming operating expenses by $200 million. These measures are designed to extend the company’s liquidity runway through 2027, following a second-quarter report that revealed a net loss of $1.26 billion.
The recovery strategy hinges on "must-win" projects including the Cosmos mid-sized EV and the completion of the AMP-2 factory in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, Lucid is formalizing its robotaxi ambitions through a partnership with Uber and Nuro. By integrating Nuro’s self-driving technology into Gravity SUVs, the company intends to bypass traditional retail margins. A new division, Lucid Technologies, will oversee this push into AI and advanced driver assistance systems. Despite rumors of potential bankruptcy filings, Napoli insisted that outside consultants were brought in strictly to support this operational overhaul, which he expects to conclude by the end of August.
