Hazle Township Residents Skeptical of Data Center Payout

The proposal calls for a 15-building complex spanning 1,300 acres, backed by an additional $120 million pledged toward long-term community investments. While the cash could be transformative for a town where the median household income hovers around $60,000, residents remain deeply divided. Retired teacher Jeff Fasnacht, who lives near the proposed site, argued that the immediate payout fails to compensate for the long-term erosion of property values, construction noise, and broader quality-of-life concerns.

Legal and regulatory hurdles currently stall the project. Township officials initially blocked the development on zoning grounds, triggering a lawsuit from NorthPoint. A temporary moratorium on data-center construction now leaves the ambitious plan in limbo, as locals weigh the lure of immediate financial relief against the permanent industrial transformation of their landscape.
