Starting this week, Pro and Business Premium users can access Dots directly through ChatGPT or Codex. The company markets these agents as versatile assistants that operate continuously in the background. A developer might assign a Dot to monitor incoming customer feedback and push necessary bug fixes, while a researcher could task one with re-running experiments as new data streams arrive. Integration with communication platforms like Slack and Teams is already active, with SMS support planned for the near future.
OpenAI is also developing specialist agents capable of handling granular responsibilities, such as managing specific credentials or security protocols. A partnership with Microsoft is currently underway to fold these agents into the existing Agent 365 security framework. While much of this capability existed within previous OpenAI harnesses, the company has repackaged the underlying technology into a more approachable, cartoonish interface. This shift toward a bubbly, avatar-based persona mirrors industry trends, such as Meta’s recent agent releases, intended to make persistent AI systems feel more relatable to everyday users.
