The Richland Parish School Board is distributing these payments through a 1968 ordinance that allocates a 1% sales tax specifically for employee bonuses. While this program typically provides modest annual supplements—last year’s payout reached roughly $10,200—the current construction activity has transformed the district’s finances. In the first nine months of the fiscal year, the parish gathered $42.9 million in sales and use taxes, more than doubling previous totals. Meta also contributed a one-time payment of $22.4 million in May, with a significant portion earmarked for local schools.
For the district’s 163 full-time teachers, the payout often matches or exceeds their annual base salaries. Support staff are also slated to receive up to $17,000. These funds are distributed in two installments, June and December, intended to help educators settle personal debts, fund college tuition, or complete home repairs. Local officials expect this revenue stream to remain elevated for three to five years, potentially positioning Richland Parish as a competitive destination for teaching talent in the region.
