Snap enters the high-stakes AR market with $2,195 Specs

Preorders open June 16th with a $200 refundable deposit, targeting a fall release across the US, UK, and France. Unlike competitors that rely on tethered pucks, these glasses pack all computing power into the frame. They run on dual Snapdragon processors and offer four hours of battery life, which extends to 20 hours when using the included charging case.

Functionality centers on contextual AI, allowing wearers to query information about physical objects in real-time. Users can also access productivity apps, browse the web, or engage in multiplayer gaming via "EyeConnect," which triggers shared sessions through direct eye contact. Weighing between 132 and 136 grams, the hardware is significantly heavier than Meta’s Ray-Ban alternatives but remains a featherweight compared to the Apple Vision Pro.

Snap faces a difficult climb in a crowded sector where profit remains elusive. Meta currently dominates the entry-level space, while Snap continues to grapple with inconsistent profitability and recent corporate restructuring. By targeting studios and tech early adopters, the company is betting that the utility of its AI-integrated display justifies the barrier to entry, even as the industry at large struggles to convert curiosity into consistent revenue.
