The criminal complaint alleges that Wilkins and his co-conspirators uploaded infected games like BlockBlasters, Dashverse, and PirateFi to Steam. These titles functioned as genuine software, enticing approximately 8,000 users to install them. Once active, the underlying malware harvested passwords and sensitive data, eventually targeting around 80 crypto wallets for unauthorized withdrawals. The group reportedly promoted their malicious software across Discord, LinkedIn, and Telegram to build a wider user base.
The investigation reached a breakthrough when federal agents tracked cryptocurrency payments from a suspect account to gift cards used for UberEats deliveries. Records subpoenaed from Uber linked the purchases to an account associated with Wilkins, who operated under the alias Sibel.eth. Following this digital trail, the FBI executed a search warrant at his residence, seizing a MacBook, cellphones, and various digital assets. Wilkins declined to answer questions during his arrest, and his legal counsel has not provided a comment on the charges.
